useful reference web Asus ROG Zenith Extreme Motherboard – Unboxing It has been some time now that AMD launched their highly anticipated ‘Zen’ architecture based products which we today known as ‘AMD Ryzen’. It was a refreshing launch because it offered impressive performance without being too expensive. But AMD had no plans to rest after the Ryzen launch. What followed is known as ‘Ryzen Threadripper’. Threadripper is AMD’s answer to Intel’s HEDT Platform aka X99/X299, for this new platform AMD launched the massive TR4 socket and the chipset for these boards would be the X399.

What we have today with us is Asus’s first board for Threadripper based on AMD X399 chipset, Known as the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme. With an industry leader like Asus choosing to launch their X399 line-up of motherboards with a feature packed flagship ROG motherboard also hints at the faith they seem to have in the platform. There are 2 more models which will follow, Asus Prime X399-A and Asus Strix X399- E Gaming.

Ever since the Intel Z270 chipset launch, Asus has completely revamped their ROG motherboard packaging. In fact the trend started with Asus ROG Rampage V Edition 10 but that was a special Anniversary Edition motherboard and sported Orange/Black livery. While now all ROG boards come in these Red/Black packaging which is refreshing and cool. Also the Box quality is very good which ensures the motherboard doesn’t get damaged in shipping.

We have not clicked pictures of all the accessories that are bundled with the board, instead we decided to focus on the unique ones like the 10G Ethernet card, DIMM.2 card to house M.2 NVMe SSD, 802.11ac and 802.11ad Wi-Fi antennas, SLI bridges, External fan hub/splitter.

One look at the board and you instantly realise that this board means business, 2 x 8 pin power connectors, Heat pipe + Fan based VRM cooling solution, E-ATX form factor, Heatsink for M.2 NVMe SSD and the list goes on.

The IO Shield is preinstalled on this board unlike conventional shields in the past.

We are in the process of testing this motherboard with AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X and 1950X. Results would be shared via a different article very soon. So stay tuned!
